After the devastating passage of the dana of October 29, 2024, the beaches of southern Valencia were completely overcrowded with trees, trunks, roots, reeds and plant debris that transmitted in an overwhelming way the force carried by the water. In some cases, the water modeled and intervened them, endowing them with a formal power and, at the same time, an exceptionally poetic delicacy to the touch.
Héctor Serrano has compiled 85 roots found on the beaches to turn them into vases, both to house plant elements and to place cuttings that will later be transplanted to land. One vase for each town affected by the dana, with which funds will be raised to help the reconstruction of the area and the victims who are struggling to recover their roots.
If you would like to contribute by purchasing a vase, please send an email to monica@hectorserrano.com.
The starting price of each piece is 100 € + shipping, but if you want to donate more, no one will try to stop you.
The funds will go to CERAI, a non-profit association from Catarroja that for 30 years has been supporting the development of communities and rural producers working in agro-ecology, and promoting alternatives to agro-industrial production systems.
The funds will be used to rebuild family vegetable gardens in the area of Sot de Chera, where 80 percent of the crops have been lost after the passage of the dana and its river walk has disappeared.
